The Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone informed the public on 20th February 2024 that laboratory tests conducted on COCO SAMBA at the Food and Drug Authority (FDA) in Ghana confirmed that each 100ml bottle of COCO SAMBA contains 193mg of SILDENAFIL CITRATE, which is an ADULTERANT.

The usual prescribed dose ranges between 50mg and 100mg, so the dosage in COCO SAMBA is relatively heavy.

SILDENAFIL is a prescription drug mainly used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction and pulmonary arterial hypertension.

The Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone cautions that overdose of SILDENAFIL CITRATE has the tendency to cause serious side effects, like significant drop in blood pressure which may be life threatening, visual disturbances, headache, dizziness, chest pain, painful and prolonged erection which may cause permanent damage to the male reproductive organ.

In this regard, the Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone encourages the public to stop the consumption of these harmful products and to report any individual or institution found marketing the COCO SAMBA product in Sierra Leone.

The Pharmacy Board of Sierra Leone also report similar findings relating to products including, Olekoko Akson Bitters, Oga Abeg and Good Time Natural Herbal Formula.

How did this product pass compliance to be sold in Ghana? It has also been spotted in shops in the UK. Something is not right.
